The Salty Story

Saltwater Wine Surf Centres are the NSW Mid North Coast and New England areas leading surf shops with stores in Port Macquarie, Taree, Forster and Tamworth. We employ 50 remarkable people and our teamriders are not only the cream of local talent but great people! We stock the leading surf brands across all categories Yep! A real surf shop!

Saltwater Wine has a rich history, being one of the first surf shops on the NSW North Coast. The original Saltwater Wine Surf Centre was founded in 1975 by local Forster NSW surfboard shaper Bob Brown, the name coming from a classic surf movie of the era by Alan Rich. The movie Salt Water Wine traveled the NSW North Coast in January 1975 and played at the Forster Tuncurry School of Arts Hall as well as Port Macquaries, now heritage listed, Ritz Cinema.

The original Forster store had humble beginnings and carried a variety of brands and products of the era including Tracker; Crystal Cylinders and Hang Ten along with some familiar names in Quiksilver, Rip Curl and Billabong.

Saltwater Wine Surf Centres came under the ownership of Anthony Wilson in 1989 and opened in the Port Macquarie CBD in 1991. Since then the Saltwater Wine business has grown with the surf industry seeing many changes including the relocation of the Forster and Port Macquarie CBD Stores, the opening of the Settlement City, Tamworth and the Port Macquarie Boardstore plus the complete refurbishment of the Port Central and Taree Stores. After many changes we are now a chain of 5 stores Port Central, Taree, Forster, Tamworth and our new flagship store in Horton Street Port Macquarie incorporating the Board Store and Espresso Bar.

We are committed to supporting our local communities and the Saltwater Wine Pro is one of the longest running grass roots surfing contest on the NSW Mid North Coast.
