JANETTE HYDE

Meet Janette Hyde– GPMTA Board Member

Janette is President of the Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association and has been for over 12 years. She has been active in the Association for over 35 years.

Janette has seen a lot of changes over that time and continues to advocate for the tourism industry both locally and further afield.

For those who may not know, the Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association GPMTA is a non-for-profit Association and is the peak industry body representing the interests of the tourism industry in Greater Port Macquarie Area which includes Camden Haven and Wauchope.

We caught up with Janette and this is what she had to say.

How long have you been involved in tourism?

I have been involved with the tourism association for 39 years.

How old is the GPMTA?

Over 40 years. The first meeting I went to was in the El Paso, there were times when he association was quiet and in recess and times like now, where it has been an active contributor in our local region.

Around 16 years ago Kathy Balodis from Macquarie Waters, Chris Denny from the Observatory, David Capper from Rydges and myself from RSL Club reformed the association and it has not looked back.

Chris and I are both active board members to this day.

What do you love the most about our local tourism sector?

Our Region has so much for our visitors it is hard not to be passionate about what we have to offer!

Food, wine culture, arts plus excellent accommodation, attractions, and nature, what more could we want…it truly is our own piece of paradise.

Thanks, Janette, for your time and for being such an integral part of tourism.
