The Koala Hospital commenced in 1973, in Port Macquarie a regional town in Australia. While the plight of the koala had not been a happy one, even back then, an extremely far sighted couple, Jean and Max Starr, local shop keepers, setup the Koala Preservation Society a not-for-profit association to run the Koala Hospital.
Guided tours are conducted every day at 3:00pm, this tour is conducted outside so please be mindful to prepare for all weather conditions
Visitors are welcomed at the Koala Hospital every day of the year (except Christmas Day) between 8:00am and 4:30pm. You will be able to walk around the grounds and see the koalas in our care.
Guided Tours are conducted at 3:00pm every day when the koalas are fed and a volunteer will explain the issues that brought the koalas into our care. The tour is conducted outside only, so please prepare for any weather conditions. Group bookings can be arranged by contacting Jennifer at education@koalahospital.org.au or ring the hospital on 02 6584 1522.
Coach/Bus Tours are welcome between 8:00am and 2:00pm, bookings are essential and can be arranged by submitting an by contacting Jennifer at education@koalahospital.org.au or ring the hospital on 02 6584 1522. A minimum of 10 people are required for this booking. A small donation of $2.00 per person assists in caring for sick and injured koalas. Please book at least a week in advance if possible.
